The real excitement is in the way students will learn. In years 10 and 11, each term is based around an industrial challenge, which allows students to put learning into practice, combining theory and practical in a way that is totally new for this age range. Our close ties with major industrial names like JCB, Rolls-Royce, Toyota and Bombardier mean that students get to work on real engineering problems, gaining a fantastic insight into how industry operates.
Sixth Form life is a similar mix of practical combined with theory. Students in sixth form will study for the Advanced Diploma in Engineering.
For all students, there is a wide range of extension activities - meaning you can pursue interests outside the main curriculum.
The New Diplomas
Our students will study for the new Diplomas – equivalent to GCSEs and ‘A’ levels – in Engineering and Business Studies. During the first two years, they will undertake Diplomas in Engineering and Business, combined with GCSEs in Maths, English, Sciences, a Modern Foreign Language, and ICT. At Sixth form, they will study Advanced Level Diplomas. Diplomas are already recognised as excellent entry qualifications for the major universities.
Sponsorship
Like other state schools, The JCB Academy is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, but as main sponsors, JCB contributed 10% of the capital and donated Tutbury Mill in Rocester as the premises. (Tutbury Mill is being renovated and transformed into a modern, state-of-the-art academy building.)
